BACK TO BELARUSSIAN JEWISH ROOTS (Itinerary IV)

Itinerary IV: Slonim -Lida - Volozhin - Naroch Lake - Braslav Lakes - Glubokoye - Minsk - Bobruisk - Gomel

Day 1

Arrival in Slonim. Tour of the town, including building of the former synagogue built in 1682 which is to be restored by the Union of Religious Jewish Congregations, Jewish housing areas and restored Jewish cemetery with the graves of local zaddiks, three sites of execution of 41 000 Jews.

Drive to Lida. Visit to the places connected with Jewish Heritage.

Accommodation at the hotel. Dinner.

Day 2

Breakfast.

Departure to Volozhin, one of the world centres of Talmudistic doctrine of the 19th century. This town is well-known for its yeshiva that was founded there in 1803 and where the representatives from many countries of Europe, Asia, America, and Africa were taught. You will visit a small town Vishnevo near Volozhin which is a native place of Naum Goldman and Shimon Peres; Volozhyn Yeshiva, the Mother of all yeshivas, which isbeing restored by the Union of Religious Jewish Congregations; Jewish Cemetery which contains the grave of Rabbi Chaim Volozhyner, founder of the Volozhyn Yeshiva.

Drive to Narochansky National Park, famous for the lake Naroch, a pearl of Belarusain nature, and most picturesque Blue Lakes. (The beauty of Naroch, wonderful woods and soft climate were the main reasons for establishing a great recreational center at the lake's shores in the early XX century. The Naroch land has the largest number of pinewoods in the country. The area is famous for its mineral waters, as well.)

Day 3

Breakfast.

Tour of Blue Lakes.

Lunch (picnic on request)

Tour of the Narochansky Park historical and architectural places of interest.

Day 4

Breakfast.

Drive to Braslav Lakes (one of the most beautiful places in Belarus, located in the northwest of the country, at 250 km from Minsk and covers the territory about 70 000 hectars. The total area of "mirror" of the lakes (the total amount more than 200) scattered around in the hilly relief is 183 sq.km. Each of the lake has its own distinctive peculiarity).

Accommodation at the hotel. Lunch.

Departure for a tour around the district: sailing along the lake Drivyaty, during which the tourists can enjoy observing the environment; hiking on ecological route; visit to the open-air cages.

Dinner (like an option: at fire).

Day 5

Breakfast.

Trip to the highest point of the area, so called mountain "Mayak", with a magnificent panorama of environment. Walking around. Lunch-picnic on the bank of one of the lakes with "uha" (special fish soup) and other Belarusian dishes.

Visit to the sites of Jewish Heritage.

Day 6

Breakfast.

Departure to Gloubokoye via Mosar. Visit to the places of Jewish Heritage.

Departure to Bobruisk. Visit to the places of Jewish Heritage.

Drive to Gomel. Accommodation at the hotel. Dinner.

Day 7

Breakfast.

City tour of Gomel with visit of sites of Jewish Heritage.

Departure to the border.
